Teaching as Creative Practice: Art and Cognition This course will engage graduate students in the exploration and application of art and cognition as it applies to teaching, learning and art practice. Students will explore teaching, curriculum development and assessment strategies. Teaching will be approached as creative practice, modeling experiential approaches and mining our own studios, CCA and the Bay Area as sites for learning. We will employ readings, field trips, faculty roundtables, educational resources and frameworks to expand our thinking and open-ended investigation of teaching and learning. Emphasizing inquiry, critical thinking, reflection, and interactive, collaborative pedagogical approaches, the class will probe a diversity of contexts and teaching roles for artists, including higher and secondary education, museum, community and alternative venues. A class wordpress blog site will be set up to facilitate reflection, exchange and resource dissemination.
