FAS: Spring Break New York

« Back to course listings

FINAR-604

This course will address critical issues central to contemporary art practice and its greater context, including its production, critical framework and exhibition, which will be experienced and analyzed through a group trip to New York City during Spring Break (March 25 - 28, 2013). Limited reading assignments will be developed out of, and tailored to, student's individual interests and the group dynamic. In addition to a single round of group studio visits with the instructor and two group meetings, the course will comprise four full days of studio, gallery, and museum visits in New York City. Students will be expected to prepare short presentations pertaining to things we will see and discuss on the trip, delivered to the group in New York. While the bulk of the trip will be dedicated to contemporary art, we will spend some time looking at the rich historical collections the city offers as well. (Students will be responsible for travel and lodging expenses, and are required to stay together as a group in our hotel). Artists working in all mediums are welcome.
