GLASS-208

This course offers comprehensive instruction on all aspects of shaping, surface drawing, sculpting and forming glass in its cold non-molten state. Emphasis is on developing an understanding of coldworking techniques and skills through set projects and hands-on practice. Experimentation based on contemporary interpretations of traditional coldworking techniques is encouraged. These techniques include: grinding, engraving, carving, sawing, cutting, drilling, sandblasting, laminating, and construction. During the second half of the semester students will follow an independent study of their own design in conjunction with their instructor on a tutorial basis. Successful completion of Coldworking is a prerequisite for entry into Glass 3. Additional materials fee will be charged.
