Lecture Series

Launched in 2013, Comics in the City is a unique summer public lecture series that affords students the opportunity to meet -- and work with -- some of today's most celebrated comics creators.

Visiting Professional cartoonists are a staple in CCA’s graduate and undergraduate comics classes:

Molly Hahn

Molly Hahn (aka Mollycules) is a daily web cartoonist and the creator of "Buddha Doodles," whimsically illustrated reminders of the inherent happiness and wisdom that we carry with us at all times. Her careens appear regularly on Huffington Post and are shared by thousands everyday via social media. 

Phil Jemenez

Phil Jimenez trained at NYC's School of Visual Arts, and has worked in comics since 1991. He first gained recognition for his work on Tempest. His later works included penciling stints on the Invisibles, JLA/Titans, and Planetary/Authority.

Keith Knight

Keith Knight is a cartoonist, newspaper strip, political cartoonist, rapper, social activist, father, and educator. He is one of the most highly regarded cartoonists in America and the creator of three popular comics strips, "The Knight Life," "(Th)ink," and "The K Chronicles."

Cathy Malkasian

Cathy Malkasian is an animation director and Eisner-winning cartoonist. Her credits include Rugrats, The Wild Thornberrys (for which she received a British Academy Award nomination), and most recently, over 20 episodes of Curious George for PBS since 2008.

James Robinson

James Robinson has been writing for over two decades, with an early comics work, "Grendel: The Devil's Whisper," appearing in the 1989 series of the British anthology A1. The story for which he has arguably been most renowned is the DC Comics series Starman.

Dash Shaw 

Dash Shaw is a cartoonist and animator in Brooklyn. His graphic novel New School (Fantagraphics Books, 2013) was released in April. He is also the author of Bodyworld and Bottomless Belly Button. Shaw's animated works include the Sigur Ros video "Seraph", "Wheel of Fortune", and the IFC series The Unclothed Man in the 35th Century AD.

Jason Shiga

Jason Shiga is an Eisner-winning Asian American illustrator and cartoonist from Oakland, California. His comics have a geeky side, and often feature exciting uses of math.

Eric Stephenson

Eric Stephenson is the publisher of Image Comics and an advocate for comics creator rights. He is the 2014 recipient of the ComicsPRO Industry Appreciation award and the author of several books including the recent Image Comics series, "Nowhere Men."

GB Tran

GB Tran (Vietnamerica) is an Eisner award-nominated illustrator and graphic novelist. He's the writer and artist of Vietnamerica, the story of his family’s trauma, tragedy, and triumph during the Vietnam War, and reinvention in its aftermath as refugees in the United States.
