These drawing courses are designed to help students build the strong drawing skills and foundation necessary for the practice and study of illustration.
This course concentrates on examining the methods used to build an effective narrative image. Through labs and exercises, students will start with a study of foundation drawing tools: composition, value control, figure arrangement, perspective,depth, light and shadow, sclae change, texture and pattern, and viewpoint. Working with models will provide an opportunity to sharpen figure-drawing skills in addition to learning how tocapture emotional states with facial expressions and body language. Assignments will challenge students to create their ownnarrative drawings by using the skills learned. Midway, the classwill transitioin to employing the illustrator's methodology;including the step-by-step sketch process and learning to effectively work with photo reference. Lectures will include an analysis of narrative fine art and illustration.
