This course represents a compilation of topics that serve to provide a mathematical understanding and computational facility that is needed for architecture and design practices. Topics include polynomial functions; factor and remainder theorems; complex roots; exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions; and coordinate geometry. Required for Architecture majors. This class introduces the geometry and mathematics that lead to the generation of complex spatial forms. The course will emphasize the quantitative representation of surfaces and other geometrical objects, and will focus on the mathematical understanding of their structure. Topics will include coordinate geometry and vectors, the generation of surfaces through transformations and deformations of two- and three-dimensional objects, topology, and complex curvature.
