The emphasis of this course will be on shifting the working process from assignment based to a thoughtful studio practice that more fully reflects the way artists work. The focus of the course will change from semester to semester.
This class has a two-fold focus: to further independent projects in a challenging and critical environment, as well as introduce a series of experimental "quick and dirty" projects to actively expand the definition of a studio practice. Quick thinking, flexibility with ideas and materials, and critical dialogue is required. Several field trips will be scheduled and we will look extensively at contemporary artists working in interdisciplinary ways.
