Eng 2-ESL: Dream Literature

« Back to course listings

WRLIT-202

English 2 has two goals: first, to introduce students to the pleasures, issues, and formal strategies of literature and, second, to continue the work begun in English 1 on strengthening students' ability to use language both expressively and analytically. Reading will be drawn from a range of genres, periods, and traditions.

From Chuang Tzu's musings on the butterfly in the 3rd century BCE to the 21st century poems of Mary Oliver, literature is rich with reflections on and inspiration taken from dreams. This course surveys the major players across time and culture in the canon of world dream literature and dream-inspired art. While all CCA students who qualify for English 2 are welcome in this course, the particular needs of second-language writers will be given regular attention.
