Young Artist Studio

CCA's Young Artist Studio Program (YASP) is an exciting, intensive studio experience for students who want to explore the visual arts in a professional art school setting.

Eligible students for YASP will have just completed the sixth, seventh, or eighth grade by June 2015.

 

YASP 2016 program information will be updated in February. Registration will open at that time. 
 

Summer 2016 dates:
June 20-24 (Oakland)
August 1-12 (Oakland and San Francisco)

 

The following programs were offered summer 2015:

One Week, All-Day Program - Oakland 

Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Participants choose one of the following studios:

Animation 
Architecture: Sustainable Row House
Black-and-White Photography 
Building with Drawing
Comics
Designing with Metal/Jewelry Design 
Explorations in Painting & Drawing  

Two Week, All-Day Program - Oakland 

Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Morning studios are scheduled from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.; afternoon studios are scheduled from 12:15 to 2:15 p.m. and from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Participants choose one of the following for their morning studio:

Clay Animation
Digital Photography 
Motion Graphics
Painting 

All students take Explorations in Drawing as an afternoon studio and choose one of the following for their other afternoon studio:

Graphic Design 
Printmaking
Sculpture: Found & Made (

Two Week, All-Day Program - San Francisco 

Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Participants choose one of the following for their morning studio:

Architecture: Future House
Arduino for Artists & Designers
Filmmaking
Painting

 

All students take Explorations in Drawing as an afternoon studio and choose one of the following for their other afternoon studio:

Fashion Design
Graphic Design
Illustration 

Two Week, Half-Day Program - Oakland 

Monday through Friday, 12:15 to 4:30 p.m.

Participants take:

Graphic Design and Explorations in Drawing

Final Exhibition

Each program ends with an exhibition held in one of CCA's professional gallery spaces, where family and friends have the opportunity to see what their young artist has created during their time at YASP.

Oakland program exhibitions are held in the Oliver Art Center. The San Francisco program exhibition takes place in the Center Galleries.
