At CCA, I learned the process -- and the importance -- of thinking creatively to bring dreams and ideas to life.
Professional Career Development & Accolades
Tyler Michael Pew is the founding principal of LMNOP Design, which he has grown from a sole-proprietorship to an eight-person corporation that handles projects from design all the way to fabrication and construction.
LMNOP has built for Rebar Group, the Exploratorium, and Cinderella Bakery, among many other clients. They are currently developing an 18,000-square-foot food-truck park in Mission Bay from initial concept and branding through project management and construction.
Tyler is also the cofounder and codirector of a nonprofit venture, KIDmob. KIDmob’s mobile design workshops and 140 facilitators have brought design education to over 600 young people in three countries.
In both ventures, LMNOP Design and KIDmob, Tyler has formed a strong partnership with fellow CCA graduate, Kate Ganim (MArch 2012).
Value of an Education at CCA
“The most important aspect of my educational experience was the emphasis on staying focused on a concept, creating the design, and putting together a solid team to execute that design.”
Tyler also mentions three of his CCA professors who have had a lasting impact on his life and career:
- Hugh Hynes, senior adjunct professor in Architecture, “was pivotal in my completion of my thesis. He was wonderful at hearing me, understanding, and offering support and encouragement.”
- Douglas Burnham, adjunct professor of Architecture, “helped me think through concepts for future career possibilities.”
- Nathan Shedroff, program chair of CCA’s MBA in Design Strategy, “has the incredible ability to describe the actual business of design. He continues to be part of a cherished support network for me.”
