Dr. Padmini Balaram is a textile designer, artist, researcher, and professor of design at Silpa-Sadana, Sriniketan, Visva-Bhaarati University, in West Bengal, India. Her expertise is the eco-friendly, sustainable materials such as natural dyes and natural fibers of India, Japan, China, South Korea, Thailand, and Uzbekistan.

She is currently in the United States as a Fulbright-Nehru visiting lecturer fellow to teach the use of Indian natural dyes at the University of Nebraska.

Dr. Balaram lectures on the culture of indigo and natural dyeing in India.
