Daniel Michalik is principal of Daniel Michalik Furniture Design, specializing in the creation of furniture and objects from underutilized, environmentally responsible materials. His most recent explorations have uncovered the vast potential of cork to perform in ways that no other material can.

Michalik received the Fellowship in Design award from the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts in 2005. He has exhibited internationally at the Milan Furniture Fair, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, VIA in Paris, and numerous other venues. He has been featured in Dwell, Time, Wallpaper, Interior Design, American Craft, and the Boston Globe. He received an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, and he currently teaches at RISD and at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. He lives and works in New York.
