REMAKE / REFLECT: CCA Fashion Students in Sri Lanka

Presented by the Fashion Program
November 15, 2017, 7:00–9:00 pm
Room W2, San Francisco Campus

In October 2017, CCA Fashion Design students Misha Abbas and Mallory McDaniel embarked on a life-changing trip to Sri Lanka as recipients of the Re/make scholarship. They visited the country’s garment factories and the women who work there to get a hard, close look at the reality of fast fashion production and the living conditions it creates for workers, and to ask: what is the real cost of fast fashion? And what, as designers, do we have the power to change?

Misha and Mallory will take you on their journey in a reflective presentation of what they learned and experienced. A moderated Q & A with special guests from Re/make will follow.

Re/make is a US non-profit whose mission is to build a "conscious consumer movement:" When we know the stories, we can use our collective voice and shopping dollars to improve and shape the lives of people who make our clothes.
