In comics, "emanata" are lines drawn around the head to indicate shock, surprise, and stress. A common symbol is sweat flying off the overworked protagonist's brow. This show represents a year of process work as CCA’s graduate students reach the halfway point in the development of their thesis comics.
Participating Artists: Sierra Barnes, Alex Combs, Samia Fakih, Shuchita Mishra, Breena Nunez, Kameron Peck, Maxi Rodriguez, Nicky Rodriguez, Samuel Soto-Saines, Haley Spaeth, and Sean Timm
Additional Events: 2018 Comics in the City
In celebration CCA’s MFA in Comics graduate students making their return to San Francisco, California College of the Arts will host its sixth annual summer guest speaker series featuring three of comics' most celebrated creators and a special reading by our graduating students.
Each Friday during the month of July, the Comics in the City speaker series will highlight various aspects of the comics medium from independent publishing to the craft of writing and the future of digital comics. Featuring award-winning storyteller J.H. Williams III (Promethia, Sandman: Overture), critically-acclaimed cartoonist Julia Wertz (Tenements, Towers, & Trash), rising star Ashley A. Woods (Niobe, Ladycastle), and our very own graduate cartoonists, this public lecture series will take place on CCA's San Francisco campus. Check individual event descriptions for location and start time. For more information about the MFA in Comics program: cca.edu/mfacomics and facebook.com/ccamfacomics.
