Sarah Bird: A Vision for Mapping Giants

Presented by CCA Exhibitions
September 11–14
Nave, San Francisco Campus

Reception and artist talk: Friday, September 14th at 2 pm

In this hybrid installation, prototype, performance, and sculpture, artist Sarah Bird will introduce her vision for Mapping Giants, a unique photographic project to create a life-size portrait of a California coastal redwood tree. The project addresses the critical need to protect the climate and habitat of the trees by bearing witness to their magnificence and their essential role in our web of being. When in its completed form, this 320-foot image will be displayed publicly in conversation with the built environment.

This presentation in the Nave is an Affiliate Event for the Global Climate Action Summit and COAL + ICE and is being presented as part of CCA's Renewable Energy: Global Strategies for Decision-Makers symposium on September 11th and the Architecture Ecologies Symposium on September 13-14.

About the Global Climate Action Summit

The 2018 Global Climate Action Summit will bring people together from around the world to showcase climate action and inspire deeper commitments from national governments, and one another, in support of the Paris Agreement. It will be a moment to celebrate the extraordinary achievements of states, regions, cities, companies, investors and citizens with respect to climate action. It will also be a launchpad for deeper worldwide commitments and accelerated action from countries—supported by all sectors of society—that can put the globe on track to prevent dangerous climate change and realize the historic Paris Agreement.
