SF / ILLUS–360–01 / 15 sessions
Prerequisite: English 1, Intro to Mod Art, Foundations in Critical Studies
June 6–July 11 (no class 7/4), MWTH, 6–9 p.m.
This section is a survey of the history of illustrative art. The net is cast wide, revieweing imagery from cave painting to last week's Time Magazine cover. While great attention will be paid to North American tradition, the illustrative art of Europe, Asia and various other countries worldwide will also be shown and discussed. The class begins with a discussion of art through the ages then quickly moves into a decade-by-decade survey of illustrative art from the Civil War to present. All majors are welcome.
This course satisfies a Media History Requirement for Illustration majors or an H&S Studio Elective for non-Illustration majors.
