Students, staff, and faculty can get involved in many ways! [photo: Jim Norrena]
All CCA students, staff, and faculty are invited to celebrate sustainability and the environment by participating in Earth Week @ CCA, which runs from April 17 to 22.
As we continue to "Dream Big" at CCA, the Office of Student Life and the President's Sustainability Steering Group have put together a series of events and initiatives to celebrate sustainability and the environment!
Here's how to get involved in Earth Week @ CCA:
Student Sustainability Leadership Award
The President's Sustainability Steering Group and the Office of Student Life are excited to offer a new category for the annual Excellence in Student Leadership Awards.
The Student Sustainability Leadership Award is issued in recognition of students who demonstrated academic excellence and a commitment to being a sustainability leader at the college. Students may show leadership in terms of environmental, cultural, social, financial, and personal sustainability practices and principles.
Please visit the online nomination form to nominate a student in this new category.
Marin Headlands Bus Trip
Sunday, April 17, noon–5 p.m.
Explore one of the Bay Area's most amazing natural resources. Part of the Golden Gate National Park, the Marin Headlands boasts varied hiking opportunities with breathtaking views.
The CCA bus trip will stop at the renowned Headlands Center for the Arts for its spring open studios and will also include a visit to Rodeo Beach.
Whether you decide to visit the artists’ studios, take in some hiking, lounge at the beach, or enjoy a little bit of everything, expect to be impressed.
The bus trip is open to all students, faculty, and staff (one non-CCA guest allowed per person). Cost: $2 advance; $5 day of. (Seating is limited, and issued on a first-come, first-served basis.) Sign up at the Student Affairs Office on either campus. For more information email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Sustainable Commute Giveaway: Bus, Train, Bike, Foot
In honor of Earth Day on April 22, the college would like to recognize students who use public transportation (reducing their carbon footprint) by providing a small token of appreciation.
To pick up your gift, show us your bus or train pass, Clipper card, or bike helmet at either Student Affairs Office. (Funding made possible by the Office of Academic Affairs.)
Common Goods: CCA Stuff Swap
Embrace Instant Recycling
Need to purge your closet, studio, or apartment? Take your unwanted clothes, art supplies, and household items to the “Stuff Swap.” To swap for more useful items, just visit one of the Student Affairs Offices and sift through others’ unwanted treasures. Don’t feel like swapping? All remaining items will be donated to the local Goodwill Industries.
Donation bin locations: SF (Public Safety desk); OAK (Student Affairs Office). For more information email email@example.com.
Act Now for Comprehensive Green Jobs Legislation
Take legislative action by supporting the Earth Day Network to build a green economy.
Join Future Action Reclamation Mob (FARM)
F.A.R.M. (future action reclamation mob) wishes you a happy earth day and invites you to celebrate it for a whole week! F.A.R.M. is an alternative form of nonviolent protest, reclaiming unused public space to build community. The CCA F.A.R.M. chapter, a student-run nonprofit organization, works to revitalize the city-owned land on Hooper Street, adjacent to the San Francisco campus. We believe in the connection within our local community as well as the importance of the earth beneath us.
Throughout the week on the SF campus:
- Build seed bombs at the front of the Nave
- Follow the footprint trail to a kinetic jungle installation
- Take a tour of the farm along Hooper Street and see our new crops
For more information about F.A.R.M or to get involved email firstname.lastname@example.org.
