According to a comprehensive, two-month study of over 200 fashion design programs, Fashion-Schools.org ranks California College of the Arts tenth among its list of top 75 fashion design schools in the United States for its undergraduate Fashion Design Program!
Also impressive is the fact CCA ranks second among the top 10 fashion schools on the West Coast!
Innovative Approach to Sustainability
Earlier this year Fashionista.com listed CCA's Fashion Design Program first among its selected top 5 sustainable fashion design programs in the world!
How CCA Was Ranked
The organization consists of seven persons -- writers, designers, developers, and researchers. The end goal is to make the site the most authoritative and comprehensive online resource for aspiring fashion industry professionals.
The following criteria was used in making the "top" lists, in no particular order:
- academic reputation
- admission selectivity
- depth and breadth of the program and faculty
- geographic location
According to the Fashion-Schools.org website: “We think anybody would be hard pressed to find a more comprehensive or well-researched ranking of fashion schools freely available online.”
Cultivating Creative Fashion Designers
CCA Fashion Design chair Amy Williams isn’t surprised: “We teach students to design considering all aspects of the design process -- starting with concept building through materials and silhouette, shape and form, but during the development we ask students to consider environment, community, ethics and craftsmanship.
“We stress individuality. Our alumni are well trained to think holistically and apply very strong design strategic thinking to industry and artisan product creation.”
Fashion Design alumni have gone on to design for such companies as Abercrombie & Fitch , J.Crew, Gymboree, Pottery Barn Kids, Athleta, Badgley Mischka Couture, Thom Browne, Mountain Hardwear, Jones of New York, Narciso Rodrigues , among many others.
By providing degree information from hundreds of schools as well as profiles of myriad fashion professions, Fashion-schools.org endeavors to be the authoritative online resource for students seeking information about fashion school programs and careers in fashion.
Our goal with these lists is to provide students and parents with a starting point for identifying fashion programs that are the best fit for them. It’s a way to organize fashion school program information into an easy-to-find, digestible format.
