Conceptual Artist and CCA Alumnus Hank Willis Thomas "Sews Together" Sports and Geopolitics

The New York Times profiled CCA Alumnus and American conceptual artist Hank Willis Thomas on the occasion of his first solo show in Britain, "The Beautiful Game" on view at Ben Brown Fine Arts through November 24. 

Using the colors, energy, and spectacle of international sport, the show explores the deeper forces at play in games like soccer, rugby and cricket from colonialism to the dangers hiding behind the rewards and fame of sport and more. 

On his work, Thomas says “I believe all art is political. I certainly believe all sports are political. Not only because of the amount of money spent. You have to pay attention to it.”
