Nathan Lynch's Ceramics class will help design nesting modules to protect sea birds from being inadvertently crushed by sea lions on the beaches of Año Nuevo Island. In collaboration with Oikonos marine ecosystems and biodiversity conservation group and REBAR Art, Design and Activism Studio Group , Ceramics faculty member Nathan Lynch leads the course. CCA students will design nesting modules to be adopted by and protective to the eggs of the Rhinoceros Auklets, a sea bird considered threatened.

Yelapa Community Mural Project

Community arts organizations rely on strong partnerships to address issues of social justice, diversity, equity, community, and education. Through the Center Student Grant program, the CCA Center for Art and Public Life helps students participate in such partnerships. Launched in 2002, the program funds projects that fourth-year and graduate-level students create themselves.

On Saturday, April 2, 25 families will meet at the East Oakland Youth Development Center to kick off 100 Families Oakland: Art & Social Change (100 Families Oakland), a community art project for 100 families from Oakland neighborhoods (East Oakland, Fruitvale, Chinatown and West Oakland).
