President of California College of the Arts Stephen Beal

Dear Friends,

The CCA fall semester is well under way. As I walk through campus and visit with faculty, students, and staff, I am inspired by their incredible work to advance CCA’s core values—creating educational opportunities for our students, promoting diversity on our campus, and embracing our role as a proponent of social justice, community engagement, and environmental sustainability.

The California College of the Arts (CCA) is proud to offer a slate of Global Climate Action Summit affiliated events and contribute expertise regarding the intersection of environmental responsibility and the arts.

In September, the city of San Francisco will host the Global Climate Action Summit (GCAS)—a high-profile occasion that will bring leaders, organizations, and people together from around the world to “Take Ambition to the Next Level.” This important moment will celebrate the extraordinary achievements of states, regions, cities, and citizens with respect to climate action, while also serving as a platform to launch deeper discussions about the future.

During a public lecture at CCA on March 26, Jeanne Gang—the MacArthur Award–winning architect spearheading the design of the new, expanded campus—shared some early renderings of the project.

A flexible plan will seed organic interactions between programs; a vibrant indoor/outdoor design will create welcoming green space and places for the community to gather (as pictured above); and new buildings will harness the power of renewable energy, natural light, and rainwater. Walls are delivered at CCA's new housing project 75 Arkansas

CCA is embarking on an exciting new initiative to expand our campus in San Francisco where, for the first time in the city, we will be able to offer on-campus student housing.

Last week the first walls of our new housing project at 75 Arkansas were delivered. The building, scheduled to open in fall 2018, will house over 200 students. At the end of our expansion project, we expect to have close to 1,000 students living and working within a two-block radius of the campus.
