Sprints are one-to-three-day engagements aimed at brainstorming and prototyping ideas or products. Successful sprints:

  • Present an opportunity for interdisciplinary engagement with students from across the college
  • Work best with focused discussion of overarching questions or ideas
  • Are managed by CCA faculty facilitating the discussion and deliverables
  • Are planned 2-4 months before the engagement

Rapid Ingenuity Blitz

Organized by renowned entrepreneur and designer John Bielenberg, each Rapid Ingenuity Blitz seeks to generate ideas and projects that use design and design thinking to contribute to the greater good and demonstrate to students the social impact their work can have.

Recent blitzes include a collaboration with Google on ways to accelerate positive change in East Palo Alto and a challenge to design products from textile waste in collaboration with Kirin Cutting and Workshop Residence.

Center for Investigative Reporting: TechRaking 7.0

CCA’s Center for Art and Public Life collaborated with CIR on the latest installment of their successful series of design sprints. Interdisciplinary teams of CCA students were asked the question: How can we rethink human interaction around the news within our communities?

The students with the winning concept continued working with CIR to realize their project.

Wheel Well: A Two-Day Design Sprint to Address Bike Safety in Silicon Valley

Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition: Wheel Well

This sprint, a collaboration with CCA’s Center for Art and Public Life, challenged students to create an intervention campaign that would improve the relationship between motorists and cyclists in Silicon Valley and encourage behavior change to ensure the safety of everyone on the road.

The winning team presented its concept to local jurisdictions and businesses in Silicon Valley.
