Academic advising is an important resource for all CCA students. Advisors are available to assist students in their academic and studio endeavors by providing guidance, support, and information.
Academic advisors can help clarify academic and career goals, keep students informed about requirements, and provide information about opportunities to enhance the educational experience at the college.
All academic advisors are also faculty members.
Who Is My Advisor?
Your advisor is determined first by your entry status (freshman or transfer/second degree) and then by your major.
Advisor assignments are listed on your degree audit and can also be obtained from the Student Records or Advising offices.
First-Time Freshmen
Students entering college for the first time are assigned a first-year advisor who can help them navigate their first two semesters of study. These advisors focus on challenges and opportunities that are specific to the freshman experience.
First-year students will be assigned a major advisor in their field when they declare a major and attain sophomore standing.
Transfer & Second Degree Students
Students who transfer into CCA from another institution are assigned directly to a major advisor. The major advisors help students clarify a path within the major, provide mentorship, and offer advice about life after college.
Advisors review student portfolios for placement and transfer credit, approve student course selection each semester, help with career decisions, monitor student progress toward graduation, and discuss concerns regarding courses or programs. Additionally, if students need assistance with personal, financial, or other nonacademic issues, advisors can direct them to nonacademic CCA support resources.
