California College of the Arts announces two new members joining its Board of Trustees

Appointments bring expertise in arts advocacy, finance, real estate, and nonprofit leadership to support CCA’s mission and impact

San Francisco, CA—August 28, 2025—California College of the Arts (CCA) is pleased to announce the appointment of two new trustees, David Saxe and Bonnie Hewson, effective July 25, 2025. These appointments strengthen the college’s governance with leaders whose careers span arts advocacy, cultural strategy, finance, international development, and real estate.

“David and Bonnie each bring unique strengths that will enrich the college’s leadership,” said CCA President David C. Howse. “David’s deep ties to the arts community and longstanding family connection to CCA, combined with Bonnie’s extensive career in finance, law, and nonprofit leadership, will be invaluable in guiding the college’s next chapter and reinforcing our role as a leading institution for creative education and innovation.”

David Saxe brings significant non-profit arts experience from his roles with the Contemporary Jewish Museum, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, and as co-founder of Calvera Partners, a real estate investment firm. His connection to the college is rooted in the legacy of his parents, Dorothy and George Saxe, who assembled one of the country’s most prominent contemporary craft collections and later endowed a scholarship at CCA. George also served as a member of the Board of Trustees.

Bonnie Hewson brings a wealth of expertise in law, finance, international development, and nonprofit leadership, with senior roles at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, and JP Morgan Chase. She comes to CCA as the proud mother of alum and conceptual artist Kari Marboe (BFA Ceramics 2008), who also served as an assistant professor in the First Year Program until her untimely passing in 2022.

The new trustees will help guide the institution's strategic initiatives while supporting its commitment to fostering creativity, critical thinking, and cultural engagement.
