CCA students bring more eyes to the Bay through a creative campaign
Two Communication Design students create an advertising campaign that calls on Bay Area residents to take collective action in protecting local wildlife.
Nina Mayne (BFA Communication Design 2026) and Ben Cardoza (BFA Communication Design 2025), developed an awareness campaign for San Francisco Baykeeper, an environmental nonprofit dedicated to protecting and restoring the San Francisco Bay and its surrounding ecosystems. Through scientific assessment, patrol, and legal enforcement, the organization aims to hold polluters accountable and advocate for wildlife and climate resilience. Despite Baykeeper’s impact across the region, many people in the Bay Area aren't aware of the role Baykeeper plays in protecting the waters around them.
Drawing inspiration from the Bay Area’s history of environmental and social activism, the students created a visual identity that feels urgent, accessible, and action-oriented. Centered around the message “More Eyes on the Bay,” the campaign uses the macro photography of the eyes of local animals’ eyes as a visual metaphor for environmental awareness and accountability. The imagery draws attention to the effects of corporate pollution on local ecosystems, while the campaign's direct, approachable messaging encourages Bay Area residents to take action in support of Baykeeper's work.
The project was developed through TBD*, CCA’s student-run in-house design studio, where advanced graphic design students create high-quality work for community organizations while gaining hands-on professional experience. Through this collaboration, the campaign invites Bay Area residents to see themselves as active participants in protecting the Bay and the ecosystems that depend on it.
