Fall 2020 Showcase celebrates student excellence and perseverance

CCA students graduating this semester have persevered to finish their degrees during the COVID-19 pandemic. Explore their work and celebrate their accomplishment with the Fall 2020 Showcase.

This has been one of the most difficult, out-of-the-ordinary years in history. But throughout it all—a world upended by COVID-19, continued unconscionable racial violence, and a challenging presidential election—CCA students persevered, found creativity in isolation, and spoke up for their values and ideals.

This December, we’re honoring a subset of those students: 94 remarkable undergraduate and graduate students who have finished their degrees and thesis projects under extraordinary circumstances, spending the majority of their final year completing their degree while learning online.

“CCA’s fall 2020 graduating students have overcome many challenges to complete their capstone work during a year defined by COVID-19,” says Jaime Austin, CCA’s director of Exhibitions and Public Programming. “We recognize their determination, their bravery, their flexibility, and their dedication to growing their practice and continuing their work as creative citizens in their communities.”

In lieu of in-person fall thesis exhibitions, we’re sharing many of our graduates’ work online in CCA’s Fall 2020 Showcase, a virtual gallery highlighting the incredible work and achievements of students across CCA’s four academic divisions.

“Through the showcase,” Austin says, “we’re celebrating our graduating students’ dedication to artmaking during their time at CCA, and providing a way for family, friends, and the public to connect with and celebrate this important capstone work.”

“The end of each semester is an important and celebratory time at CCA as our graduating students complete their studies and share the breadth of their creativity and passion with the community through their thesis exhibitions,” says President Stephen Beal. “This has been a tumultuous year, and we’re especially proud of our graduating students who are completing their degrees amid so much adversity. This is no small feat and we’re looking forward to celebrating them through the showcase now, and honoring them again in May.”

Join us in feting the fall Class of 2020 by visiting the Fall 2020 Showcase to celebrate the work and accomplishments of our graduating students. We couldn’t be more proud.
