Student Spotlight: Jiayu He

I transferred to CCA in the fall of 2013 from Guangdong University of Technology in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong Province. China’s education system is extremely different from the system in the US. The vital difference is that US schools encourage critical thinking. I heard about CCA and its film program from one of my teachers, and I decided it would be better to live and study abroad.

My Cinematography class with Frazer Bradshaw and Tim Kerns and my senior project, which is a film about life choices, have inspired me very much. The self-learning skill is the most rewarding experience I’ve taken from my senior project course. Students can't rely on the instructor too much. Looking back on the years I’ve spent at CCA, independent critical thinking and self-learning skills will stay with me forever, I think, and I am very grateful for this.
