CCA architecture students Danielle Khoury Gregorio, Noor Alhashimi, Eason (Yicheng) Jiang, and May (Zanmei) Wang, working with Asa Kalish from UCSF, have been named the Emergent Voice Winner at the 2026 Biodesign Challenge for LIVING MATTERS. The project also received Platinum Medal Recognition for Narrative, Concept, Context, and Reflection.
LIVING MATTERS reimagines sustainable housing through a community-led building system that uses locally sourced and living materials, including reclaimed lumber, mycelium insulation, and bacteria-hardened clay tiles. Developed by CCA and UCSF students, the project explores how housing can reduce environmental impact while strengthening local skills, labor, and ecological knowledge.
